Extremely well-trained and proficient in the sport, ASA officials are nationally recognized as true professionals governing league play and city, state and national championships. Jerry Fick, Metro Cincinnati Umpire in Chief, is no exception. Serving as an ASA umpire for more than 25 years, he has been honored with an ever-growing list of awards and accomplishments.
Appointed to the National Umpire Staff for the Midwest Region (10) in April, 2002, Fick has served as Metro Cincinnati Umpire in Chief since 1978. During his dedicated years of service, officiated three ASA National Tournaments: 1979 Men’s Major Slow Pitch, 1986 U.S. Olympic Festival (Men’s Fast Pitch) and the 1989 Men’s Super Slow Pitch. Fick is a member of the National Indicator Fraternity, a reward program started for ASA umpires in 1986 and he received the Midwest Region (10) National Award of Excellence in 1997.
Fick shares his knowledge and experience by conducting clinics and teaching at schools throughout the country, as well as in Germany and Italy. He has hosted the Metro Cincinnati Clinic for 29 years, using members of the ASA National Umpire Staff. He has also served more than 25 years as Umpire in Chief of the famous Cincinnati Metro Qualifying Tournament, which has more than 300 teams annually.
In addition to his success as an ASA umpire, Fick is both a District Secretary, covering 70 local officials associations, and an official’s instructor for the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSSA). He was honored to be inducted into the OHSAA Officials’ Hall of Fame in 1995. Retired, Fick works part time as a human resources consultant, and resides in Cincinnati with his wife Dee.
